Min Diesel // Pinact

Return of Order & Action Park present: Pinact & Min Diesel.

Lo-fi garage urchins Min Diesel and Pinact are releasing a split 7″ single, and are touring the UK in a vehicle with wheels to tell people about it. This is a gig, in Edinburgh, at Opium, at midnight.

Entry is free, but donations are encouraged. Stick a hand in your pocket, chuck a few quid in the bucket.

Min Diesel are a guitar-led three-piece from the north-east of Scotland, who shamelessly plunder the best bits from their favourite late-80s/early-90s punk, lo-fi and math-rock bands’ back-catalogues to create music they’ve taken great amusement from dubbing “min-die rock”. Since their inception, Min Diesel have shared a stage with Errors, Acoustic Ladyland, Joan of Arc, Hot Club de Paris, Sky Larkin and Paws.

Pinact are a two-piece hailing from Glasgow and Aberdeen, and fuse Dinosaur Jr-esque fuzz with the kind of pop melodies that would make Evan Dando eat his own ears. The band have released two EPs and played scores of gigs up and down the country, bursting eardrums as they go.

The Appleseed Cast // June Miller // Verse Metrics

Action Park Promotions presents:

Lawrence, KS-based emo quartet THE APPLESEED CAST made its debut on the 1998 label sampler Records for the Working Class, releasing the full-length The End of the Ring Wars later that same year. In 1999 they released a new single, Skatter Ik Ignito, as well as a split EP with labelmates Planes Mistaken for Stars and Race Car Riot; Mare Vitalis followed in early 2000, heavily showcasing Baruth’s complicated beats and the band’s overall dense, atmospheric sound. Despite the hints of a new direction, the album couldn’t have prepared fans for the two Low Level Owl albums released in 2001. Complex, delicate, and highly experimental, these two records took a cue from Radiohead’s Kid A and sent the band careening into space rock and electronica with only traces of emo poking through. The records weren’t nearly as commercially accepted, but their overall bravery showed that the band was prepared to make stylistic leaps.

The next year, Lost Songs brought four unreleased tracks from 1999 and five new songs together onto one album. Overdubbing new elements over the older songs, The Appleseed Cast blended the tense emo of their early work and the broad experimentation of their new material. The band returned in 2003 with Two Conversations (Tiger Style), which continued to explore atmospheric texture in the framework of traditional rock & roll. An extensive tour followed the LP’s release. The band next went on a brief hiatus following Tiger Style’s demise, but soon returned with renewed energy and a new label. Peregrine appeared in March 2006 on Militia Group before hitting the road with dates on both coasts. Sagamartha arrived in 2009, and later that year, the band signed on with Graveface Records, and in 2011 released their first recordings for the label, the EP Middle States. The group returned with sixth album Illumination Ritual in spring of 2013.

JUNE MILLER is cinematographic dream state, soundtrack of landscapes that have no name. It is dense sound, yet rarefied – meteorology of consciousness, often cumulonimbus of rain and rage, sometimes a white stain stretched and floating the blue.

The band’s first recording is Simulacra Sunset, released on vynil 10” by the Italian label Marsiglia in 2009. 2010 is the year of the second EP With Downcast Eyes, released by the Japanese label Friend of Mine. The debut full-length album is I Couldn’t Be With You Even If I Wanted, produced by Chris Crisci (The Appleseed Cast) and released in Italy by OuZeL rec. in September 2012, as well as in Japan by Friend of Mine rec. in February 2013.

After releasing the album, the band has toured Italy extensively, and will be the opening act of The Appleseed Cast European Tour scheduled for Fall 2013.

VERSE METRICS is a Glasgow-based alternative band formed in late 2009. The band released 5-track EP VM1 in November 2010 and double A-side single Sleep & Wakefulness in July 2011, bringing shows across Scotland and England with the likes of Found, United Fruit, Arches, Gothenburg Address, Bwani Junction, I Build Collapsible Mountains and many others.

Highlights to date include being named in Vic Galloway‘s ‘Tips for 2011′ and Sunday Herald’s ‘A-Z of ones to watch in 2012’, as well as extensive radio play. Since VM1 opener ‘Tired Lights’ won an honourable mention in The Scotsman’s inaugural Radar Prize, several tracks have been featured on BBC Radio shows such as Radio 1 Scotland, BBC Introducing and 6 Music, as well as coverage from independent stations and podcasts. Verse Metrics have also had prominent features in The Scotsman’s Under the Radar and The Evening Times, and positive reviews from well known media titles including The Herald, The List and The Skinny. In August 2012 the band recorded 5 new tracks with engineer Jamie Savage at Chem19 studios. These tracks make up Verse Metrics’ new Radians EP, released on 1st December 2012.

Penguins Kill Polar Bears // Felix Champion // We Came From The North

Penguins Kill Polar Bears

With two EPs, Dawn And Vessels + Veins, a single and several tours of the UK under their belt, receiving accolade from publications like the Skinny, Rocksound & Artrocker, it’s fair to say PENGUINS KILL POLAR BEARS have been successful with their energetic take on post-rock.

Now in the midst of recording their debut album, due for early 2014 release, they are returning to Edinburgh to give us a teaser of what to expect from the new record.

Drawing influence from artists such as Smashing Pumpkins, Brand New and Manchester Orchestra, their music is telling and their aspirations are clear. This, coupled with a penchant for engaging and extremely loud live shows, should convince anyone that they are well worth some attention.

Felix Champion

Off the back of their debut single release and on the brink of releasing their debut EP, FELIX CHAMPION are getting ready to travel the country, destroying every stage on their way. Expect an aggressive performance intertwined with lots of harmonies to soothe the ears.”

Felix Champion are a 4 piece alternative rock outfit with a must see live performance!

We Came From The North

Vasquez // Alpha Male Tea Party // Black International

VASQUEZ was originally three guys who met on Gumtree following a post looking for band members by guitarist/founding member Ciaran Mckenna. The ad lead to him meeting R James Iremonger (bass) and Jon Adam (drums) in 2009 and coming up with the name Vasquez; named after the hard as nails, heavy machine-gun wielding marine from Aliens.

The three band members began to write and gig together leading to them recording and self-producing their first EP in 2010.

In December 2010 original bass player R James Iremonger was forced to leave the group for personal reasons leading to the addition of Sean Quinn as the current bass player.

Inspired by the likes of Talking Heads, Don Caballero, Torche, Steve Reich and Meshuggah the group has released two EP’s (EP1 and EP2) and gigged extensively around the UK allowing them to play alongside bands they love such as United Fruit, Fat Goth, Divorce, Vessels, Castrovalva, Die! Die! Die!, Secta Rouge, A Fight You Can’t Win and Lady North.

Alpha Male Tea Party

Alpha Male Tea Party are one of them bands from Liverpool that don’t sound like a band from Liverpool, playing an aggressive yet melodic breed of guitar driven math-rock which nods to the likes of Brontide, You Slut! and Tera Melos.

The three piece have been on a UK mini tour with Axes (Big Scary Monsters) and have previously played with Adebisi Shank, And So I Watch You From Afar and Tubelord amongst many others. Last year saw the self-release of debut album “AMTP” and August 26th 2013 will see follow up EP “Real Ale and Model Rail: A Lonely Man’s Guide To Not Committing Suicide”.

Black International

BLACK INTERNATIONAL is a musical group from Edinburgh, Scotland. The band was formed in late 2006 by Edinburgh College of Art graduates Stewart Allan (Vocals & Guitar) and Craig Peebles (Drums) with the intention of making stripped down, economical, brutal pop songs.

Cactus and Cardigan // Ultimate Slaymaster

Cactus & Cardigan

Spawned far up north, where the air is thin, CACTUS & CARDIGAN congregated late 2011 to create music to scare the locals in Thurso and beyond. Taking influence from Kong, Reuben, Future Of The Left and other such riff laden wizards they set out to shake the foundations of wherever they may roam.

Having recently played shows with Freeze The Atlantic, Sucioperro, The Fire & I, Carnivores and PAWS the band have carved out a unique sound, which has recently been laid down in the form of their new EP ‘Gag Reflex, released through Action Park Records in Apri earlier this yearl.

This was supported with a free download single and video, ‘Smegma’ and a mini-tour of Scotland inluding Thurso, Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Algernon Doll

Ewan Grant, AKA ALGERNON DOLL, evokes the spirit of the likes of Red House Painters, Mark Lanegan and Elliot Smith.

The last year has been an exciting one for Algernon Doll. Having released his debut album, as well as supporting the likes of Franz Nicolay (Against Me), Chris T-T, Esperi and Willis Earl Beal. He now follows that up with another expertly crafted record, Citalo-pop, released on 10th June 2013 via Common Records.

By assembling a full band for live shows to replicate the bigger sound produced on the album, Algernon Doll has also added another dimension to his project setting up a thrilling year ahead.

Retox // Zeus! // Billy Ray Osiris

Combining the jagged edges of stripped down/back-to-basics rock n’ roll with bombastic attitude and art-rock intelligentsia, using the prism of the past to look toward the potential brilliance of the future, RETOX’s album “YPLL” arrived via Epitaph Records in May 2013. A brand new video, “Congratulations You Are Good Enough,” is already live on Vice’s Music Channel, showcasing the band’s kinetic, challenging energy.

Subcultural iconoclast and artistic visionary Justin Pearson is known in critical circles, amongst contemporaries across a wide variety of genres and to fans of incisively incendiary artistic expression around the world as one of the guiding lights of the groundbreaking outfit THE LOCUST.

“YPLL” takes the ugly powder-keg promises of the band’s impressive debut and ratchets up the proceedings exponentially, quickly given all who fall under its spell ample evidence as to why friends and contemporaries who have played with Public Image Ltd., Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Man Is The Bastard, Swing Kids, and The VSS count themselves among the bands supporters and comrades.

Support is from beastin’ Italian duo ZEUS! and improv noise-badgers BILLY RAY OSIRIS
